What is XERF?
A monopolar radiofrequency system by Cynosure Lutronic that delivers 6.78 MHz and 2 MHz in a single shot, for the face and neck. Tightening occurs via soft tissue coagulation.
Is the treatment comfortable? Do patients need numbing?
Most patients find it easily tolerated, feeling only warmth, and no numbing is needed. Wave Fit spreads each shot over up to 12 cooled pulses so heat rises gently, and settings can be adjusted during the session.
What results can patients expect?
In a clinical study at 4 centres, 92.3% of patients were rated improved and 84.6% were satisfied 90 days after 2 sessions. Change can be visible right after treatment and keeps building over the following months. Individual results vary.
Which skin types?
All skin types, per Cynosure Lutronic. Radiofrequency heats tissue rather than targeting pigment, and published data include skin types III–IV.
What is the treatment protocol?
Typically 2 sessions, then a follow-up session every 6 months. A full face and neck session uses 900 shots; lower face and under the chin uses 450. About an hour or less.
